CARVING (2011)
This work appropriates both defected and fully recovered files in order to create a new composition. This combination is somewhat an imitation of the process performed by the computer (deleting and reconstructing)
The starting point for this work is a Data carving* process I have performed on a found hard drive.
The data carving* process created the raw materials for this work - picture files, both defected and fully recovered, containing private and personal photos alongside pictures from the internet browser history stored within the hard drive. As the hard drive has been formatted prior to the data carving process the pictures were only partially recovered.
*Data carving (definition) - A computerized process that performs reassembling and reconstruction of defected files.
