NATURA FICTIVA
The work examines the ways in which we are exposed to "wild nature" enclosed in capsules and nature reserves. These capsules are subject to a domineering human gaze and restricted by the limits of knowledge and representations of popular media.
The videos are composed of nature films that were manipulated in order to question the representations they exhibit.
The images are a hybridization of scientific nature drawings from the 19th century, composing a fabricated animal from multiple different skeletons.
The deconstruction I apply to the conventions of knowledge and culture is accompanied by a playful tone which undercuts the severity of these subjects and emphasizes the artificiality of their representations.
