LIFE HACKS
This work approaches the Situationist movement concept Détournement with a contemporary understanding of this concept - As hacking. Performing a hack promises a degree of agency in understanding and manipulating the object of desire. The term itself has extended beyond its typical connotations of invading and manipulating computer systems, and has spilled over into everyday life. The prevalence of “life hack” articles that promise to give users the inside-scoop on how to streamline inconveniences in their lives, the rise of augmented reality, and technological implants all point to an existence in which the contours of humanity are constantly mutable. What underlies these various forms of hacking is a recognition of an abstracted subject/object that can be reconstituted/redefined and holds the potential to create a space of agency that will disrupt or open up these processes/relationships.
